Ghost mix and Grizzlys advance to WESG Canada grand finals
The first day of WESG's Canada Regional Finals at EGLX in Toronto has come to a close, seeing Joshua "steel" Nissan's Ghost mix — featuring Kaleb "moose" Jayne and Anthony "gMd" Guimond in place of the team's usual Americans — and Grizzlys advance to the grand finals.
The first semifinal matchup of the day kicked off with Ghost going up against Poutine Warriors on Inferno and Mirage. After fighting back from a 4-11 deficit on Inferno, with both steel and moose putting up over 30 frags, Ghost managed to pick up a 2-0 series win as they strung together nine straight rounds in the second half of Mirage for a spot in the grand finals.
LiviD had a similar run against Grizzlys in their series opener of Mirage, taking a 9-6 halftime lead as they swapped over to their T side. Although Grizzlys gave themselves a fighting chance with a pistol round win, LiviD immediately replied back once they had guns for a streak of seven rounds to close out their opponent's map pick.
LiviD continued their form into Nuke as they once again took control after losing the opening pistol round, working their way up to a 7-2 lead on their T side; however, this time they were unable to maintain their lead as Grizzlys pushed back to trail by only a single round at the half.
Yet another pistol round went the way of Grizzlys as they gained the lead for the first time since the first pistol round, but LiviD found themselves a trio of rounds to push themselves back onto the board. It was a triple kill from Cedric "M3lio" Perrault that allowed Grizzlys to crush the LiviD economy, allowing them just one last round before closing out the map 16-12 to take the series to the deciding map of Train.
It was on Train that David "J0LZ" Jolin and the rest of the Grizzlys really came to life, picking up a quartet of rounds on their T side before LiviD snuck in their first round. That round would be the only one that LiviD would manage in the half as Grizzlys immediately reset the CT economy, flying up to a 14-1 scoreline before bringing home the series 2-0 with a 16-1 map win.
The lone semifinal on the female side of the tournament saw Mirage (the team) completely lock out LiviD Academy 16-0 on Cache before conceding just two rounds on Mirage (the map) for a 2-0 series win. Mirage (the team) are set to face off against Those Damn Canadians in the WESG Female grand finals, which will kick off the day tomorrow at 12 PM EDT.
The grand finals bout between Ghost and Grizzlys will take place shortly after the conclusion of the female grand finals, beginning sometime around 3 PM EDT.
