Four more teams advance to PGL Bucharest Closed Qualifier
The second NA open qualifier for PGL Bucharest 2025 wrapped up on February 17th, seeing four more squads join the closed qualifier. Keeping in mind that the Closed Qualifier will have 17 spots filled by the Americas VRS, turnout in the open qualifiers has been something of a mixed bag, with lower-level squads and international cores aiming to make a longshot run to the Romanian LAN.
When the smoke cleared, ESL Challenger League squad Aetheris topped the qualifier, with Andrew "VulcaN" Dominguez's Straight2Killin mixteam, Illya "supa" Filanchuk's MakesMeetYou mixteam, and ESEA Advanced squad NuTorious claiming the next three spots.
Overall, Aetheris cruised through their side of the bracket, only dropping a single map to Vireo.pro in round three. On the other side of the bracket, NuTorious probably had the most difficult road of all teams to locking in their closed qualifier spot, needing to best Akimbo in a close 2-1 series to make it to the top four. The top four itself was a bit of a mess as multiple teams forfeited the seeding matches, with NuTorious giving way to Straight2Killin before Straight2Killin forfeited the finals to Aetheris.
The full bracket may be found here.
