LiviD and Poutine Warriors qualify for WESG Canada regional finals
The WESG Canada online playoffs have completed, with the two teams for the regional finals set, joining Ghost and Grizzlys.
The qualifier, played in a four-team double-elimination bracket, kicked off with LiviD taking on Farmers Reborn and Poutine Warriors up against up north. LiviD took a 2-0 win over Farmers, despite a strong performance from Musa "fisher" Mammadov keeping the Farmers afloat on both maps. Poutine Warriors similarly found a clean 2-0 series against up north, with Tyson "TenZ" Ngo stomping up north on Train.
In the Winners' Match, both LiviD and Poutine Warriors collided, with a full best-of-three series playing out. The first map of Overpass saw LiviD take the first half with a strong 11-4 lead at halftime, before TenZ and Victor "cadiac" Kwan pulled the map back in the Poutine Warriors' favor, with the map ultimately going into overtime. In OT, Poutine Warriors pulled out four straight rounds, taking the first map 19-15.
On Train, LiviD rebounded with a strong 12-3 first half, with Yannick "KOLER" Blanchette leading LiviD to a 16-5 finish on the map, tying the series 1-1. LiviD continued their dominance onto Cache, but were met with more resistance in the first half, as their lead dwindled to a 9-6 scoreline. However, a strong second half easily gave LiviD the third map 16-7, taking the series 2-1 and qualifying them for the WESG Canada regional finals.
In the lower bracket final, up north and Farmers collided, with Nassir "rugrat" Francique crushing up north on Cache, as Farmers took the first map 16-1. up north responded on Mirage, with Kory "SEMPHIS" Frisen demonstrating his fragging ability to tie the series 1-1 with a 16-13 win in the second map.
On Dust2, Farmers took a strong 11-4 lead in the first half, which was quickly reduced by up north, who pushed the final map into overtime. In overtime, Farmers found the strength to close out the series, taking the last map 19-16 and the series 2-1.
After being knocked down to the consolation final, the fallen Poutine Warriors took on the Farmers. Victor "cardiac" Kwan showed no mercy for the farmers on Inferno, with his 2.11 rating giving Poutine Warriors their first map 16-5.
Poutine Warriors continued to lead on Cache, with cardiac, TenZ, and Derrick "LILMAN" Boyne handily finding their way to a 16-9 victory on the second map, taking the series 2-0 and qualifying for the WESG Canada regional finals.
LiviD and Poutine Warriors round out the team list at the Canadian regional finals, which will take place from October 26th to the 28th, featuring a $37,000 CAD prize pool. The teams will take on Ghost and Grizzlys, who both previously qualified by winning the first two Canadian online qualifiers.
