Marsborne Minus: "Lucid is by far the best coach in NA right now"
Marsborne are through the semifinals of Fragadelphia x Block 2025 after a tense match against underdogs Wanted Goons in the quarterfinals. This was rather surprising, given that Marsborne has been nothing but solid since the squad came together in January.
Dust2.us' Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey "Mnmzzz" Moore managed to interview Marshall "Marshal" Sedowicz right after the Marsborne v. Wanted Goons match and talk about what went wrong in that match, plus discuss the formation of Marsborne, how Minus feels about working with Hunter "Lucid" Tucker again, and the odd fact that Marsborne's General Manager is his older brother.
The full interview can be found below on YouTube, with key snippets underneath.
I don't think a lot of people would have expected Marsborne to have so much trouble taking down Wanted Goons, an ESEA Advanced side. What went wrong in maps one and two that dragged out that series to a real slap fight?
We definitely had a lot of nerves going into it, this is our first LAN as a team and we're a newer team. So, everybody is a little jittery, we weren't really making decisions and sticking with them. Everybody wanted to have new ideas coming in and we kind of just overthought, and I personally was really nervous. It's our first LAN, I kind of freaked out, but we're all good now.
We really came back and did well on Ancient and showed that we are the better team. The first two matches were just a little rough, but I we're good now, and I think tomorrow [Sunday, March 2nd] will be a way better showing from us.
About the formation of this Marsborne squad, it kind of came together very very quickly. One day we were seeing steel and Skadoodle on Undone and then the next day Marsborne kind of came into formation. How did you end up coming into this project?
So, the org actually reached out to me originally and I was the first person they originally brought on. Then I messaged Lucid, because I love him and worked with him on Orgless. I think he's a great coach and he has a lot of tier-one experience to really elevate an NA team up to the higher level.
I first messaged Lucid and then he started talking that he really wanted to play WolfY and I think WolfY is smart, he's a genius compared to all of us. So we got them, and then we [have] Grizz, [who is] an upcoming gem, a great player. We took a chance on Grizz and he's been absolutely destroying it.
Then we were looking for a new two and we [thought] of motm and chop. It's a lot of experience coming from them, they've been playing top NA for a while, and [there was] the benefit of getting the ECL slot, which is pretty nice. That was it, basically.
You mentioned you worked with Lucid previously on the daps' Orgless lineup. How important was it to bring him on board for this new lineup, based on your previous experience working with him?
I think we would be 50% worse without Lucid. Lucid is by far the best coach in NA in my opinion right now. He just has such a good way of explaining things, of motivating everybody, keeping us all together, keeping us focused on what we want to do, and what goal we want to hit. It's been going great so far.
Other interesting fact about Marsborne is the fact that the General Manager is actually your older brother, who is known as Cashmere. What's that arrangement, having your boss, your direct report, being your older brother?
Actually, I love it because when I was going into this, I just wanted to make sure I would be okay. Like, to be able to focus in grinding as much as I want and be good.
They let him come on, he was part of it from the start, and is a great addition. I think he's a really good manager, everybody loves him, and then also this is strictly business. At the end of the day, I'm not on the team because he's my brother, if I need to get cut, I get cut. People are weird about it but I think it's not that big of a deal.
