Valve reportedly made $82,000,000 from CS2 cases in March alone

CS2 continues to be a massive profit driver for Valve.

According to date derived from Counter-Strike 2 case tracking website CS2 Case Tracker, over 32 million cases were opened in the month of March alone, suggesting that Valve made around $82,000,000 from case openings alone based on estimates done by /r/GlobalOffensive user /u/Training_Natural_552.

This estimate goes to show how lucrative the skins market is for Valve, with the $82,000,000 figure only accounting for key and case purchases alone without even delving into the world of reselling skins and other cosmetic items that Valve takes a cut of on the Steam Community Market.

Overall it is within the realm of possibility that Valve earns $100m+ from their most popular title every month, an insane number that is made even more ridiculous when you consider that CS2 is only one part of Valve's business empire that also includes Dota 2 and Steam along a number of other titles and ventures.

As such, it is somewhat understandable the reaction many of the users in the /r/GlobalOffensive thread had to the revelation, with many blaming Valve for not doing enough to improve various elements of Counter-Strike 2 despite the title being extremely lucrative for the developer. Much of the criticism focused on the cheating problem in CS2 alongside performance issues and a lack of post-launch content in the game.
