Team USA fall flat in IESF 2024 debut; Canada stay afloat
After the remainder of day one of the IESF 2024 men's CS2 tournament was pushed back due to technical issues, Team USA finally started its campaign at the $240,000 international tournament today, with the roster helmed by Collin "CoJoMo" Moren falling completely flat in Riyadh.
Team USA began their campaign in Riyadh with a 13-9 loss to Team Latvia, with Team USA beginning Mirage with an 8-4 lead on their T-side before utterly collapsing on the CT-side. Team USA's next match against Tunisia ended up being an embarrassing affair for the former Perseverance core, as Team USA were completely dominated by the North African stack, conceding an embarrassing 13-3 loss to the team that was otherwise blown up in their other matches today.
To end day one, Team USA suffered one final loss to Team Kazakhstan, with the Americans gaining little ground against former Evil Geniuses IGL Sanzhar "neaLaN" Iskhakov and his countrymen before dropping Dust2 13-6.
With Team USA sitting at a 0-3 record it is a near mathematical impossibility for the squad to make the playoffs. The team's only solace now is to try and find wins against Team Ukraine Team Romania to post a 2-3 record and improve from their 1-4 record last year, which saw Team USA only beat Team Algeria in Romania.
Switching the focus over to Team Canada, the French Canadian Homyno squad started their group yesterday by securing a win for the North American region, taking down Team Turkey in a close 13-9 victory in Inferno with Saad "Pluto" Siraj leading the charge.
The next two matches unfortunately did not see similar success, with the struggling against Team Poland in a 13-7 loss on Mirage before also taking a beating on Nuke in a 13-7 loss to Team Norway. With Canada ending day two with a 1-2 record the team are unlikely to make playoffs unless they go huge and secure wins against Australia and Sweden while other upsets happen in Group A.
Team USA will head into action tomorrow against Team Ukraine at 09:00AM while Team Canada will face Team Australia at 03:00AM.
