Twistzz has been Liquid's IGL for about nine months

How was Twistzz as Liquid's IGL?

Twistzz had ups and downs as Liquid's captain.

Liquid have used their Canadian superstar Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken as IGL since dropping Danish captain Casper "cadiaN" Møller to the bench following IEM Dallas in June 2024. Twistzz surely didn't achieve as much as he would have liked in his time as Liquid leader.

Since replacing cadiaN as IGL, Twistzz's individual level hasn't really fallen off. He registered just below a 1.0 rating at only three events - BLAST Premier Fall Final 2024, IEM Rio 2024, and Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024. He frequently posted above a 1.1 rating during his time as IGL, being one of the better players on Liquid.

However, an IGL is judged more harshly by the performance of his team. After Twistzz took the reigns from cadiaN in June of last year, Liquid haven't placed above top-8 at a big event - though they mustered a quarterfinal finish at Perfect World Shanghai.

In comparison to their reported new IGL Kamil "siuhy" Szkaradek's performance in that same time period, MOUZ came at least top-4 at four events, including a second-place finish at IEM Rio 2024, and a 3rd-4th finish at the Perfect World Major. From purely a results-based viewpoint, siuhy has been the more successful IGL.

The Polish caller is coming in to give Liquid a better strategic leader, and to re-activate Twistzz as an individual. However, it may take some time for siuhy to get integrated into the team as a leader, and Twistzz may need time to regain his form as a rifler. It remains to be seen if this change will effect Liquid in a positive light.

siuhy might be implemented in Liquid's lineup as early as PGL Bucharest and is reportedly going to trial with the team through the BLAST.tv Austin Major.
