NRG, MIGHT among teams to top first Perseverance Cup Qualifier
This weekend the first of two open qualifiers for the $100,000 Perseverance Cup was played out, with NRG, MIGHT, undefined, and InControl topping the field which saw a modest turnout of 44 teams. The quartet have now locked in their spots in the Torontonian LAN, which is set to run from November 2nd to November 3rd at the Invictus Game Station internet café.
NRG's road to the main event was quite easy, with the team only facing three teams on their way to qualification. All in all, the team made their way through with a 13-1 win over eNsKy, a 13-4 over Aether, and a quick 2-0 over Tempest only losing nine rounds in total throughout the qualifier. MIGHT's route was similar, with the team started their run by besting Little Red Gang 13-7 before playing a close match 16-12 against straykids. Their final match was against Tortuga, with MIGHT winning 13-6 and Nuke 13-5.
Next up, Bobby "stamina" Eitrem's undefined squad found success via a 13-4 win over Karma, followed up by a 13-5 win over KingsOfTheNorth, and a quick 2-0 over the Ukrainian-Kazakh squad retired demons.
As for InControl, they were the largest underdog in the qualifier to find success as all of their matches were relatively close affairs after receiving a bye and a forfeit in the first two rounds. InControl started their run proper with a close 13-11 win over ECL squad Take Flyte on Nuke before playing the only three-mapper of the qualifier against DETONATE. The series started with DETONATE winning Ancient 13-5 before InControl rallied to win Vertigo 16-12 and Anubis 13-7.
