Quest, Oceanic, Zone, and slashLEVEL earn quick wins in ESEA Advanced Round of 16

The majority of the opening round matches have concluded, with the remaining teams all reaching the money stages.

The ESEA Advanced Season 30 playoffs started on March 24th, and with seven of the eight round-of-sixteen matches being played as of last night, here is a recap of the action so far.

The first match was played back on Sunday night, between Polar Ace and slashLEVEL, where the two teams selected to play on Nuke, Dust2 and Inferno. slashLEVEL opened the series with a dominant 13-2 half on Nuke, before fighting off Polar Ace's strong CT-side for a 16-8 win. They followed this up with a much closer 16-13 win on Dust2, where after a 9-6 half they pushed back against Polar Ace's attempts for a comeback after taking match point. Katie "Katie" Boop was the team's strongest performer, taking 59 kills and 112.1 in ADR over both maps in the series.

The next matches were all played last night. Zone played we dont give a hoot first, on Overpass, Dust2 and Inferno. This was a swift 2-0 for Zone, as after an 11-0 lead on Overpass they pushed on for a 16-4 win on the map, before taking Dust2 in a similarly dominant fashion for a 16-9 win. Hunter "koga" Allen was the strongest player for Zone, taking 61 kills and averaging 127.8 in ADR over the whole series.

The Quest was up next, and they played IdentityDisorder over Dust2, Inferno and Nuke. In a familiar theme for these first few matches, this one once again was completed rather quickly. The Quest opened Dust2 with a 13-2 half, before taking the map 16-3 and followed the result with a 16-6 on Inferno, having had to overturn their opponent's pistol round win. Logan "Voltage" Long was strongest for his team, taking 49 kills and 116.9 in ADR over the series.

The last series to finish in two maps was between Hot Ass and Oceanic, which was vetoed to Nuke, Train and Cache. Oceanic opened proceedings with a strong 12-3 first half on Nuke's T-side, before following it up with four out of five rounds in the second half. Train followed, and the 13-2 lead in the first half saw a similar story shown for Oceanic, if not for the six rounds Hot Ass collected before Oceanic could take the 16-8 win. Liam "Welshy" Newhouse took top spot on the server over the series, with 102.3 in ADR and a 1.67 rating.

The next series to complete saw the only majority-Canadian team in the playoffs, LiviD, take part against BLITZKRIEG with the two teams vetoing down to Cache, Overpass and Dust2. LiviD were the first team to take a map in the series, with a close 16-12 win on Cache to place them on the scoreboard. From there it was downhill for the Canadians, as BLITZKRIEG evened the series with a 16-5 win on Overpass before completing the series similarly fast with a 16-7 win on Dust2. Nick "alter" Jackson was his team's strongest player, taking a 1.35 rating over the whole series.

The next game saw BBC take on Legacy, on Mirage, Nuke and Train. BBC were playing with substitute "burrite" having removed Everett "Poison" Ivy the day before the match was played. This roster change didn't seem to faze BBC on Mirage, with the team following a 9-6 half with a flawless CT-half for a 16-6 win on the map. Legacy's pick of Nuke was another story, as a closely fought match saw each team fight for control of the lead, before Legacy took the 16-14 win.

Train finished the series in a bit of an anti-climax. BBC opened the match with the first five rounds before Legacy had rounds of their own. Throughout the final map, BBC were always ahead of their opponents as they eventually cruised to a 16-10 win. David "Toy" Han was the team's strongest performer, racking up 83 kills over the series with 107.5 in ADR.

The final series played so far was between Black and Variance on Overpass, Nuke and Train. Black opened the match in a strong fashion, going 11-4 up on the map before taking the win 16-10. The final two maps were extremely close with Nuke next, as the two teams were close together as the first half with both taking the lead before it finished 8-7 in favor of Variance. While the second half was also close, Variance ran out as 16-13 winners having not dropped their lead.

Train was the finale, where once again the two teams were closely matched throughout the first half, this time seeing Black come out 9-6 ahead at the first half break. The second half was a completely different story, with Variance storming out of the blocks with nine CT-side rounds in a row to go from being behind to series point. Black fought back, picking up the next five rounds to come within a round of forcing overtime before Variance wrapped it up in the final regulation round for a 16-14 win.
