Eternal Fire breeze past Liquid in BLAST Open Lisbon 2025 debut
Eternal Fire are one step closer to BLAST Open Lisbon 2025 playoffs after comfortably defeating Liquid by 2-0 in the opening round of group B this Thursday, March 20th.
Liquid, who narrowly beat the Turkish team at ESL Pro League Season 23 earlier this month, fell short this time and now find themselves one loss away from elimination.
Liquid had good reads at the start of Dust2, their map pick, as they exploited A Long, but Eternal Fire adapted their CT side to win that first half. Things went sour for Liquid in the second half as they displayed a defense that proved to be ineffective against Ismailcan "XANTARES" Dörtkardeş.
The Turks carried the momentum to Anubis despite starting on the CT-side, which is the toughest across the entire map pool, and kept Liquid's offense humble.
Liquid desperately needed the second pistol on Anubis, but Eternal Fire won it easily and never really gave Liquid a chance to claw their way back into the game. Surprisingly, it was Engin "MAJ3R" Küpeli and not XANTARES who stole the show on Anubis. The veteran IGL had multiple multikills and even one ace that paved the victory for his side and made him secure his highest rating in CS2 thus far.
This victory put Eternal Fire in the group B upper semifinals against G2, while Liquid will have to defeat Imperial to avoid an early elimination from BLAST Open Lisbon.
