M80 defeat FURIA to survive and advance at BLAST Open Lisbon 2025

Absolute cinema.

M80 and FURIA both had their backs against the wall in this do-or-die matchup in the group stage at BLAST Open Lisbon.

M80 lost a three-map opening match to The MongolZ to descend to the lower bracket.

M80 chose to begin the series on Dust2, and FURIA elected to start on the T side. Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo rolled back the years in the first half. The AWPing IGL went 16-5 in the first half to lead FURIA to a commanding 10-2 lead.

M80 clawed the score back to 11-7 in favor of FURIA before the Brazilians got over the line at 13-7. The second half was Kaike "KSCERATO" Cerato's playground; he went 8-3 to propel himself to a dominant 20-9 K/D ratio overall.

The series then moved to FURIA's choice, Train. FURIA would have been very happy with their start, taking a 7-3 lead to start their T side. KSCERATO went double-positive with a 14-7 scoreline, but M80 would secure the final two rounds to reduce the deficit to 7-5 at the half.

Those rounds may have proven pivotal as M80 secured much-needed momentum going into the break. The American/German mix won the force-buy war and took the lead at 9-8. Elias "s1n" Stein and Ethan "reck" Serrano stepped up to will M80 over the line and force a third and final map.

Inferno was the climax that this match needed. FURIA started on the attack and took control immediately, jumping out to a 7-1 lead. M80 made the first half respectable, securing three of the final four rounds to make the score 8-4 to FURIA.

M80 flipped the script on FURIA in the second half, winning seven of the first eight rounds in the second half to go up 11-9. The Brazilians rallied to tie the game at 11-11 before M80 secured a map and match point at 12-11. They came tantalizingly close to securing the win in regulation after Mason "Lake" Sanderson nearly clutched an insane 1v5.

The overtime was a back-and-forth battle where FURIA secured two match points at the end of the first overtime period. M80 clutched up with two round wins, including a do-or-die retake to make the score 15-15 and force a second overtime. M80 had two match points for themselves in double OT. A similar retake kept FURIA alive but M80 closed out the game at 19-17 behind Fritz "slaxz" Dietrich's map-high 29 frags.
