M80 fall agonizingly short v. The MongolZ at BLAST Open Lisbon
M80 looked good in the first two maps but were blown away by The MongolZ in the third map.
M80 chose Dust2, and The MongolZ elected to start on the CT side. M80 took the first pistol but lost the six following rounds to go down 6-1 to The MongolZ. Garidmagnai "bLitz" Byambasuren led the way for the Mongolian side with 12 frags in the first period, but M80 would claw back and secure five rounds to reduce their deficit to two rounds at 5-7.
bLitz may have slowed down exponentially but AWPer Usukhbayar "910" Banzragch picked up where he left off, going 10-5 with a 1.61 rating in the T half. The game went back and forth, leading to an 11-11 tie with two rounds remaining in regulation. The MongolZ clutched up and won both of the remaining rounds to secure the first map 13-11.
The MongolZ were primed to take the 2-0; the series shifted to their map pick of Ancient. However, M80 would not go down without a fight, jumping out to a 4-0 lead and taking an 8-4 advantage into the second period behind Ethan "reck" Serrano's stellar 18-6 statline.
The North American mix took the first three rounds of their T side to make the score 11-4. The MongolZ stormed back with seven straight rounds to even the game at 11-11, but M80 would right the ship to steal the Mongolians' pick 13-11.
Inferno was the decider, and The MongolZ showed their class. The MongolZ sprinted out to a 7-0 advantage with a whole team effort and ended the half up 10-2. Sodbayar "Techno" Munkhbold went 13-3 in the first half with nearly a 2 rating to all but extinguish M80's hopes.
The second half was no different; The MongolZ ended the game quickly, winning by a scoreline of 13-3 - Techno top fragged at 16-5 to put M80 out of their misery.
