
Liquid eliminate Imperial in three-map affair at BLAST Open Lisbon
Liquid were forced to grind out the three-map victory to defeat Imperial in their second match at BLAST Open Lisbon 2025.
Liquid righted the ship after a poor performance v. Eternal Fire in their opening match in the group stage - which is taking place in Copenhagen before the playoffs shift to Lisbon.
Imperial began the series by picking Dust2, one of their most effective maps. Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken didn't care. The Canadian superstar took control in the first half, going 15-4 on the CT side to put his team up 10-2.
Imperial secured two more consolation rounds in the second half, but it was for naught as Liquid converted map one by a score of 13-4. Justin "jks" Savage had a much-needed solid map after recent struggles. The Australian went 15-7 in D2 with a 1.57 rating.
After an impressive showing on Imperial's pick, Liquid were primed to take a 2-0 win. Play moved to their pick of Nuke, where Imperial elected to start on the favored defensive side. Roland "ultimate" Tomkowiak powered Liquid to a 7-5 lead in the first side after going down by a score of 3-5.
Imperial did not back down, a team-effort led by Santino "try" Rigal and Kaiky "noway" Santos led the comeback for Imperial, who were down 7-10 early on in the second half. The Brazilian majority needed all 24 rounds to steal the map from Liquid, finishing the game in regulation at 13-11.
Anubis set the stage for a scintillating decider, with Imperial starting on the T side. They did not start as they would have liked, falling behind 3-0 to start the game. Twistzz and Keith "NAF" Markovic combined to put Liquid ahead 7-5 at the half. The Canadian duo went 10-6 and 9-6 respectively to help their international squad to lead at the interval.
Liquid secured the second pistol and did not look back. Twistzz and NAF led the way for Liquid to secure a flawless half and 13-5 win to eliminate Imperial at BLAST Open 2025.
Liquid's playoff hopes stay alive, and they will face the loser of The MongoZ v. NAVI tomorrow at 11:00AM.
