Chill Guys best Akimbo to top Off Season Shenanigans Season 6
This weekend saw Off Season Shenanigans Season 6 come to a close, with the orgless Chill Guys lineup topping the 32-team tournament after a perfect run through playoffs, not dropping a single map on their way to the $1,500 top prize while capping off their run with a dominant 2-0 win over fellow ESL Challenger League team Akimbo.
Chill Guys' run in playoffs began with the team taking down FRAUDSnDRUGS and Amped before facing fellow Eastern European squads Immigrants Peek in the semifinals, dispatching Volodymyr "bezymecc" Slobodian with a 13-9 win on Inferno and a 13-11 win on Ancient.
On the other side of the bracket, Akimbo began their playoff run with a close 2-1 victory over Stand On Business before needing an overtime win on Mirage against NuTorious to ultimately take the series 2-0 against Luke "looke" McCloud's troops. In the semifinals, Akimbo looked more confident as they claimed a 2-0 win over VitaPLUR with a 13-8 on Mirage and a 13-10 on Ancient.
With the finals set, the series kicked on Anubis where Akimbo started the map with an 8-4 T-side before conceding the next five rounds on their T-side to give the lead over to Chill Guys. Despite Akimbo then winning the next two rounds, it was clear Chill Guys were the better team once they got on their T-side on Anubis as they confidently won the next four rounds to take Anubis 13-10.
Moving onto Akimbo's map pick of Mirage, this map opened in a much closer fashion as an early 6-2 lead by Akimbo on their T-side gave way to an even 6-6 split at the half after Chill Guys rallied. In the second half, Akimbo once again started in the lead with a 10-7 lead before once again taking their foot off the gas. This would allow Chill Guys to climb up a 10-10 scoreline before an early AWP kill by Nikita "TABEN" Holovachov in the 24th round would pave the way for Chill Guys to take Mirage 13-11 and avoid overtime.
