Vertigo touches the sky as most played map at PW Shanghai Americas RMR

A last hurrah before Train comes?

The often maligned Vertigo managed an incredible feat during the Perfect World Shanghai Major RMR, tying Anubis as the most played map with eleven appearances.

The full distribution of maps played at the Americas RMR is as follows, per HLTV:

  • Vertigo: 11

  • Anubis: 11

  • Dust2: 9

  • Mirage: 7

  • Ancient: 6

  • Nuke: 5

  • Inferno: 4

Vertigo fares far better in events featuring Americas teams than at international events. At both the BLAST Premier World Final and IEM Riot this past month, Vertigo was only selected twice at each event, the least of any map. According to HLTV's map stats section, it is has been played the least of any map at "big events" in 2024, just underneath Dust2 and above the removed Overpass.

However, at the Americas RMR, the map was selected five times in best-of-ones, and was the decisive third map in both the 0-2 matches during round three. Vertigo even held the distinction of bring the final map played at the Americas RMR, as the second map in FURIA's 2-0 victory over M80 in the tiebreaker. Interestingly though, Vertigo was never left over as the third map in any best-of-three veto.

Outside of the Americas, many pros are hoping to see the newly released and updated Train eventually replace Vertigo in the map pool, though that may require some time.
