M80 falters, Brazil clutches up in final day of PW Major Americas RMR
The Americas RMR for the Perfect World Shanghai Major has concluded, but M80 was unable to join its fellow North American teams in the biggest tournament of the year. Instead, Imperial and FURIA took the final spots up for grabs on the last day of the tournament.
M80 outlasted BESTIA in their round five matchup, going to a familiar setting in overtime on Anubis to close out the series in three maps. M80 needed both Imperial and FURIA to lose in the fifth round to directly qualify for the Major, but both Brazilian sides won, putting M80 up against FURIA in the final tiebreaker series.
M80 started the series strong with an eight-round T-side on their pick of Anubis, but inexplicably were unable to muster a single CT round against FURIA. Not a single M80 player was able to record more than three kills in the second half, with the team combining for a -5 first kill differential. On Vertigo, M80 once again surrendered an early lead, and opening duels again went the way of FURIA, who took Vertigo 13-8 to claim the series and the final spot in the Major.
Despite the loss, M80's in-game leader Elias "s1n" Stein did his best to stay positive in the post-game interview with HLTV, saying that there's plenty of Counter-Strike to look forward to in 2025.
The seven Americas teams qualified for the Major, and their RMR records, are:
-
Wildcard (3-0)
-
MIBR (3-0)
-
Liquid (3-1)
-
Complexity (3-1)
-
paiN (3-1)
-
Imperial (3-2)
-
FURIA (3-2)
All seven teams will compete in the Opening Stage, which officially begins on November 30th.
