Team USA go winless, Canada struggle in final day of IESF 2024
Yesterday saw the final group stage matches played at IESF 2024, seeing Team USA and Team Canada fall flat in their finals matches, with Team USA exiting the Saudi event with a 0-5 record while Team Canada ended up with a 1-4 record thanks to their day one win over Team Turkey.
The result is especially disappointing for Team USA as it sees the American delegation miss out on playoffs for the third year in a row while falling to a diabolical 1-11 record at the international tournament after first entering the 2022 edition.
Heading into day two with a 0-3 record, Team USA's opening match yesterday versus Team Romania only added to the squad's woes as the Americans conceded an 8-4 lead on Inferno, allowing the Romanians to push the map into overtime before taking it 16-13.
With one last chance to secure a win, Team USA's final match versus Team Romania was unfortunately a rather one-sided affair, with Team USA briefly leading at the start of Nuke with a 3-0 lead on their T-side before falling apart and conceding the map 13-7.
With the loss Collin "CoJoMo" Moren were sent packing with a 0-5 record, failing to improve on their 2023 run in Iași, Romania.
As for Canada, their final day of competition in Riyadh began with the team's narrow hopes of making playoffs dashed as the squad fell to Team Australia in a close 16-14 loss on Mirage.
This close loss against Australia was then followed up by a complete blowout by Team Sweden, who dominated Team Canada with a 13-3 win on Mirage.
With Team USA and Team Canada sent packing, North America exits IESF 2024 with a poor record that sees the two squads watch the European in the playoffs from the sidelines.
