Denzel Curry's ultimate

What to expect from Liquid v. FURIA

Another regional rivalry?

Is FURIA legit? Is Liquid legit? Both squads have come out swinging here at IEM Cologne 2024 with Felipe "skullz" Medeiros looking much more comfortable amongst his countrymen while Roland "ultimate" Tomkowiak has surprised everyone with his performances amongst the best of the best. It's a testament to both players and the new lineups that they are capable of so much so quickly. Tomorrow will be re-match of their earlier battle in which Liquid pulled out a 2-1 victory.

Ultimate pick up

He's the ultimate pick up, get it? Isn't it funny? No, just me? Okay. Listen, I'm pushing 30 and these are the types of things I find funny now. Anyways, like I said in the introduction, ultimate is just an unreal player. He is singlehandedly carrying Liquid in some of these games and can really change the momentum at the drop of the hat.

  • Just let ultimate do what he does best

  • YEKINDAR is finally getting back to his old form

  • NAF and Twistzz are just as consistent and good as ever

FURIously keeping up

FURIA are not choke artists. They made it to the top eight after starting at the Play-In stage of IEM Cologne. It's a great mental hurdle for them, especially as they started their new lineup with an international analyst backroom staff and the introduction of skullz. The team is looking better and better as they finally have a solid team after the exit of Andrei "arT" Piovezan.

  • skullz is finally playing like the anchor he needs to

  • FalleN is still showing that he has it in him

  • KSCERATO, as always, pushes this team to the next level

Previous Matchups

Boy oh boy do these squads love to play one another. FURIA and Liquid, historically, have often competed at the top of North America. For these current cores they have played each other three times, with Liquid leading the series 2-1 overall. They most recently played right here at IEM Cologne, with Liquid coming out the victor.

Likely Vetoes

They've already played each other once and Liquid has been pulling out some tricks. Could they be up to more in this lower-bracket match tomorrow morning?

  • FURIA ban Vertigo

  • Liquid ban Nuke

  • FURIA pick Inferno

  • Liquid pick Dust2

  • FURIA ban Mirage

  • Liquid ban Ancient

  • Anubis as a possible decider

I think that Liquid, despite winning Nuke last time, will look to both avoid that and potentially Anubis. It was a very tricky match for the North Americans and won't be an easy game at all.
