Complexity destroy Virtus.pro
After cruising through the IEM Cologne Play-in stage without dropping a single map, Complexity started its IEM Cologne main stage campaign against the Russian powerhouse of Virtus.pro with a statement win.
This result means Complexity will face the winner of the MOUZ v. Falcons series. Another win will see the North American team advance to the IEM Cologne playoffs for the first time since 2020.
The series against VP started off with Vertigo, picked by Complexity. Despite VP winning the pistol round, the American T-side was on point early on, as the squad immediately strung together five rounds and never looked back, claiming a 9-3 lead at the half. On defense, Complexity won the first two rounds of the half, Virtus.pro answered back, but the North American side ended up winning the map comfortably 13-6.
Dust2 was a closer affair, though. Complexity won the CT-side pistol round to open the map, but Virtus.pro answered back with four straight rounds before the North Americans did the same. Complexity went to the T-side with a 7-5 lead, hoping to close the series with a 2-0 win. The T-side was much harder, despite Complexity winning the pistol round. Virtus.pro won five in a row, taking a 10-9 lead, but the American squad took the lead right back. The Russians still had some gas in the tank and sent the map to overtime. It was a very balanced OT but VP took the 16-14 win.
Anubis, the decider map, saw Complexity starting on the CT-side and doing something similar to Vertigo. The North Americans lost the pistol round but would take a commanding lead after with some rounds strung together. At halftime, Complexity led 8-4 and the lead continued to grow once the second half started. It was a nearly flawless T-side that resulted in a 13-5 map win and a 2-1 series win.
