Rogue defeat Envy to qualify for StarSeries i-League Season 7
Rogue have defeated Envy 2-0 (16-12 Overpass, 16-7 Mirage) to qualify for StarSeries i-League Season 7 Finals in Shanghai next year. The team played both the StarSeries and Americas Minor qualifiers fielding Jesper "TENZKI" Plougmann in place of Ricardo "Rickeh" Mulholland, with their attempt to qualify for the Minor falling short with a 9-12th placing.
The day began with Envy taking on compLexity in the final semifinal bout to earn their berth in the grand finals, reverse sweeping Peter "stanislaw" Jarguz and co. 2-1 (14-16 Inferno, 16-13 Train, 16-11 Mirage).
Envy began Inferno with a 9-0 lead, dominating compLexity's defensive hold. compLexity managed to edge out four rounds at the end of the half, allowing themselves to stay afloat as they swapped to their own T side. There, they did one better than Envy and gave up only three rounds, with Bradley "ANDROID" Fodor and stanislaw combining to narrowly grab the map 16-14.
Envy took control back by resetting compLexity after they took the first pistol round of Train, grabbing themselves an additional two rounds for a 3-1 scoreline. They were unable to maintain their momentum once compLexity picked up rifles however, and stanislaw's side gave up only two more rounds for a 10-5 CT half.
compLexity put themselves in touching distance of the series win with a pistol round and ensuing anti-eco victory, but much like Envy, crumbled once their opposition had rifles. Envy rallied back to win eleven of the next twelve rounds to take the series to the deciding map of Mirage with a 16-13 map win.
Once again Envy got off to a hot start on their T side, garnering eight unanswered rounds before compLexity replied back with seven of their own for an 8-7 half. This time Envy secured themselves the pistol round in the second half, nabbing another two rounds before compLexity broke their money. Once their economy stabilized, Envy were quick to close out the map with four rounds for the series victory.
Spencer "Hiko" Martin came to play in Rogue's grand final bout against Envy, amassing 30 frags over the 28 round game to help his team take the victory. A number of resets in the first half saw the teams battle back-and-forth for control of the economy, with Envy edging out a 9-6 lead on their CT side.
Rogue's CT side proved superior however, with Hiko and co. granting Envy only three rounds before taking the map win 16-12.
Rogue's CT side form continued into Mirage, this time with the Danish duo of TENZKI and Mathias "MSL" Lauridsen combining to start the map with a 7-1 lead. Envy fought back to snag themselves five more rounds in the half, replicating the first map's scoreline of 9-6, but this time in Rogue's favor.
Rogue didn't let their lead slip as they won the T side pistol round, using the momentum from the economic victory to work their way up to a 14-6 lead. Envy managed one final round in protest before Rogue brought the second map to a swift 16-7 finish, netting themselves a spot at the $500,000 LAN.
Rogue currently have no events or matches lined up with the professional season now on a break. As they failed to qualify for the IEM Katowice Americas Minor, it is possible that they may head to iBUYPOWER Masters in January.
