Wildcard claim their first 13-0, M80 taken down a peg | ECL S48 Roundup Day 27
Well, what more is there to say than if you were not paying attention last night you missed out on some out of this world matchups that have caused some major ramifications to the potential playoff seeding spots at the top of the table. M80 were handed two losses while Nouns gained some valuable points. Mythic continue to show some life as they won a crucial 2-0 against LAG while NRG were swept aside by Legacy in two hotly contested maps.
M80 1-1 Nouns
Wow. Wow, wow, wow. Nothing more to say other than Nouns really needed this win over M80. Not just to help them stay in the fight towards the top quarter of the standings, but to show that there are not pushovers in this league.
The series started on Ancient, with Nouns keeping M80's attack at bay as they secured eight rounds defensively. Nouns almost closed it out on a clean T-side, but M80 decided to make things a little hairy. It was truly the Mason "Lake" Sanderson show as he did everything he could to keep M80 in the fight, but ultimately Nouns were able to stop the comeback and put the game to bed 13-10.
Vertigo was even tighter as the two sides were inseparable after the first half. It was M80 to strike first in the second with their T-side more potent than Nouns could initially handle. M80 got straight to match point before Nouns finally put up a bit of a fight. It was too little too late, however, as M80 closed it out 13-10 to split the series between the two teams.
NRG 0-2 Legacy
A brutal match at the top landed in favor of the Brazilians in dethroning the current ESL Challenger League leaders with tight 2-0 win. Things started off strong on Ancient with the Brazilians starting as the map off as the stronger team. Legacy were able to parlay their 7-5 first half into a 11-5 second half lead before NRG finally were able to respond while playing defense. It took too long for them to get it together as Legacy, lead by Eduardo "dumau" Wolkmer, cruised to a 13-9 victory.
dumau was critical to Legacy's success last night as he helped his squad also earn the second map win on Dust2. The sides couldn't be separated after the first half, but once again, Legacy pulled away in the second half to give themselves the advantage. NRG failed to win a single pistol over the course of the two maps which ultimately hurt them as Legacy eventually won Dust2 13-11 to secure a crucial 2-0 series victory.
Wildcard 2-0 BOSS
One the eve of their Atlanta travel day, Wildcard pulled out two verocious map wins to help boost their confidence. BOSS, with new addition Gaving "Fruitcupx" Norman showing a different side of themselves in recent times, struggled to keep up against Wildcard as they were embarrassed with a 13-0 drubbing on Ancient.
Vertigo was not nearly as bad, but there is some concern for Josh "JBa" Barutt's performances as of late as he continues to struggle in online play. Fortunately for the young American, his teammates were there to help as they put up a solid 8-4 defensive half against BOSS. While the unsigned lineup came out swinging in the second half to take a slight 10-9 lead, Wildcard woke up to close it out 13-10.
Elsewhere, Mythic finally got a solid night of gaming as they 2-0'd LAG. M80 and Party Astronauts split their series later in the night along with Limitless and Take Flyte. Nouns were also able to 2-0 Revenge Nation.
