DJF returns to Limitless in latest roster shenanigans

Limitless will field DJF and Wolffe after more twists and turns this season.

Last night Limitless announced the latest chapter in the team's roster woes as Dylan "DJF" Ferreira has returned to the team's starting lineup permanently. At the same time, the team is also set to field Kyle "Wolffe" Greenfield for the remainder of ESL Challenger League Season 48. DJF's return to the roster comes after a "U-turn" with the player determining he has the time to continue playing with the squad. Additionally, Wolffe has offered to help the team due to Limitless using up all their roster additions until November 3rd.

DJF initially stepped down from the squad on September 11th due to his busy work schedule leaving him unable to meet team commitments. However, he has seemingly been able to find a way to move forward with the team, telling Dust2.us he plans on sticking with that squad, barring any unexpected commitments that come up in the future.

As for Wolffe, his sudden return to the team is a result of the lineup running afoul of Rule 2.21 in the ESL Pro Tour CS Roster Restrictions rulebook. Essentially, teams are only allowed to add five players within a 120-day period, with Limitless reaching their cap back on July 11th with the additions of DJF, Wolffe, Justin "Sandman" Saulle, and McKinley "Cyrix" Hollison. This meant the team would generally be unable to add a new player until September 11th, however the team's usage of Brennan "Aureo" O’Connell on the August 18th in the second IEM Rio Open Qualifier essentially pushed back their ability to add another player until November 3rd.

Via discussions with an ESL admin, Dust2.us understands that the team would normally be barred from using Aureo in the IEM Rio qualifier. However, with the team electing to field him anyway, ESL tournament management have decided to count him as their September 11th addition, thus moving the 120-day window to November 3rd, long after ECL S48 is set to conclude.

As a result, Limitless are unable to use Andrew in any ESL competitions until at least November 3rd, a tough loss for the team as he is set to become their IGL and is currently set to fill the role in CCT Season 2 NA Series 3. This is especially unfortunate for the team as they are currently sitting near the bottom of the league table in ECL S48 and are trying to avoid Relegation. With the team forced to use a roster that they had already planned on changing, this will be an uphill battle as the team currently sits at a 2-14 record.

Limitless are now:

  • United States Sebastian "Seb" Dietrich

  • United States McKinley "Cyrix" Hollison

  • United States Justin "Sandman" Saulle

  • United States Dylan "DJF" Ferreira

  • United States Kyle "Wolffe" Greenfield (ECL Stand-in)

  • United States Andrew "Andrew" Burrell (CCT Stand-in)

  • United States Brennan "Aureo" O’Connell (Coach)

Limitless' next match in ESL Challenger League Season 48 is set to be against E-Xolos LAZER on September 24th.
