Liquid fumble in quarterfinals
Well, there's not much to say about that, but in just a few short days, North American teams have absolutely crumbled in the playoffs of ESL Pro League Season 20 after three teams qualified for the elimination stage.
First, Complexity were crushed by Liquid in a regional self-cannibalization, then M80 got dumped by MIBR, not Liquid are exiting at the hands of G2. All around... not great. Liquid was almost as rough as the Complexity match as G2 didn't need too much time to take them down.
The opening map was slightly confusing as Liquid elected to remove Ancient, one of their best maps in recent memory. With that, G2 also took away the option to play Anubis. With all of that said, Liquid elected to play Inferno to start, and it was a decision that they would soon regret. The match did not last very long as G2 held strong on their defense only to allow Liquid three rounds to begin the match. G2 soon wrapped it up with a 13-3 map win to steal their opponent's map pick.
Liquid seemingly bounced back on Mirage as they went above and beyond what was thought possible for the lineup after that Inferno map. While the team jumped out of the gate strong, they didn't finish the first half the same way, with only a two-round advantage on their T-side. However, their T-side was where the team showed their strength, winning six consecutive rounds to take a 13-5 victory on G2's pick.
Nuke... oh Nuke. It was painful and agonizing to watch a team that was just so potent on their T-side fail to make a similar dent while on the final map of the series. Liquid were pummeled 11-1 on their T-side while G2 mopped up the map on their own T-side to take the series with a 13-3 victory.
Liquid, M80, and Complexity have now all been eliminated from ESL Pro League Season 20.
