Party Astronauts lose another piece mid-season

A complete rebuild for PA is becoming more likely.

Party Astronaut's coach, Luke "Viathan" Carsten, has announced his departure from the orgless team, becoming the latest member to leave the lineup following Danny "cxzi" Strzelczyk and Adam "WolfY" Andersson's exits on August 28th.

Viathan leaves Party Astronauts after more than a year with the team, having first joined as an assistant coach before taking the helm following Nathan "madcow" Retterath's departure in July 2023.

During his time with the Party Astronauts roster, Viathan helped the team to navigate multiple roster changes while also standing behind the team at ESL Challenger Melbourne and ESL Challenger Jönköping. While the team failed to make a splash at their international outings and were unsuccessful in finding an organization during Viathan's tenure, Party Astronauts maintained their spot as one of NA's best teams, notably securing top-four finishes in ESL Challenger League Seasons 46 and 47.

While the team has been overall successful, their recent changes are undoubtedly tied to PA's failure to make the Perfect World Shanghai Major Americas RMR, with the team falling in the Closed Qualifier after a shock loss to FLUFFY AIMERS to finish with a 1-2 record.

Regarding his departure, Viathan provided the following comment to Dust2.us:

It's been kind of a whirlwind of flying up the competitive ladder the past three years now of being active in CS. Especially this last year with all the roster changes PA has had, going to two events overseas and having some really meaningful (and sometimes disappointing) online matches.

I've never had a period to breathe, digest it all, and let the things I have learned really become a part of who I am. This will give me the time to do that so that I can actually improve who I am both in a team and out. With the major being off the table now this is as good a time as ever to do this as well I think.

Party Astronauts are now reduced to:

  • United States Ben "ben1337" Smith

  • United States Gage "Infinite" Green

  • Canada Justin "FaNg" Coakley

Party Astronauts will now look to rebuild as they still have to look forward to the back half of the ESL Challenger League Season 47 season.
