ropz on Razer's new keyboard tech: "Shouldn't be allowed" in tournaments
There are not many ways to directly change how a player performs on the server beyond finding the mouse, keyboard, mousepad, and overall set up that each individual player enjoys.
Some are required to use peripherals by the company sponsoring the organization or the player themselves, while others are free to use a mix-and-match set up that is best suited for them.
Rarely, if ever, has there been a piece of physical hardware that can create such an overwhelming change in the performance for any player - until now.
Razer introduced their newest piece of technology "Snap Tap" mode for the Huntsman V3 Pro keyboard line. The hardware feature is similar to Wooting's "Rappy Snappy" feature, which prioritizes the latest input between two keys. This allows players to counter-strafe much quicker which, in turn, helps reset the player's aim and provide more accuracy.
The mode works as the player will not have to release the previous key when strafing as the keyboard will simply register the last button pressed, even when simultaneously holding, say, the A and D keys together.
The issue now arises as some professional players do not believe that this mechanic should be allowed in tournaments, despite the pre-clearance already given to it by ESL. FaZe rifler Robin "ropz" Kool responded to a post by LAG rifler Nicholas "nicx" Lee suggesting that TO's would simply ban the peripheral.
Yeah, shouldn’t be allowed. Nice work Jimmy Malavong, but this is a bit too much, literally a macro/script, otherwise known as null-binds. CS KZers know the effects of this, it basically removes the human error part when you move/strafe. It’s been against the rules and bannable in few other games too (osu, cs 1.6 kz afaik). At least that’s what this seems to be, let me know if I’m wrong
Martin "STYKO" Styk also jumped in and said that the keyboards had already been in use for several tournaments at the Tier 1 level.
As for Senior Esports Ambassador for Razer Jimmy Malavong, he was concerned that the hardware could be potential found afoul of tournament regulations, but he says that he made sure organizers would allow this feature - similar to how they allowed the jumpthrow bind in the beginning of CS:GO.
The feature has only just shipped for the specific Razer Huntsman V3 Pro line, but with such an advantage, it's possible that more pros will adopt this keyboard soon.
