Liquid win first IEM Chengdu Open Qualifier
Liquid have finally come away with the first event win of their new squad, the IEM Chengdu 2024 North America Open Qualifier #1. It's an important win for the organization as they look to bounce back following a disappointing ending to their 2023 campaign.
Casper "cadiaN" Møller's new squad could not afford to falter at any point during the qualifier as all matches were best-of-ones until the grand final late last night. There were some scary moments as LOS attempted a late comeback in the RO16, just to lose 13-11 and then Liquid was forced into overtime against Wildcard in the quarterfinals just to secure a 16-12 victory.
On the other side of the bracket, NRG suffered another disheartening loss in a qualifier as Badass took down the Canadian squad 13-9 on Ancient. NRG has not gotten off to the exact start they were hoping for, as they also failed to qualify for the 2024 PGL Copenhagen Major Americas RMR.
For NRG, they are already signed up for the next qualifier, as well as almost every other team that failed to make it out in the last two days which starts later today. The upcoming IEM Chengdu North American Closed Qualifier will begin on January 19th through January 20th, featuring M80, Liquid, and Boss. The final team will be decided later in the second open qualifier.
