Nouns, Badass and Rocket are the final teams headed to Monterrey
The last day of the Americas RMR North American Closed Qualifier ended with a big surprise, as Rocket beat NRG 2-0 to claim one of the last NA spots in the Americas RMR. At the same time, Badass beat Party Astronauts 2-1, guaranteeing a spot in the final hurdle before the Major.
With this, the Closed Qualifier ends with most of the favorites advancing through to the Americas RMR, but some notable names are missing, such as NRG, Party Astronauts, and LOS.
After a start to the night that saw my life be like, LOS, and Cloud 10 exiting the competition with 2-0 losses against Carpe Diem, NRG, and Badass, respectively, those three last teams were waiting to meet their opponents in the 2-2 bracket. Those opponents would come from the 2-1 bracket match losers, which saw Liquid, BOSS, and M80 qualify over Party Astronauts, Rocket, and Nouns.
In the crucial 2-2 series, where the loser would go home while the winners would go to Mexico, Nouns easily beat Carpe Diem 13-5, 13-6, and Rocket sweated but swept NRG 16-13, 16-14, in one of the biggest upsets in the whole qualifiers. Finally, Badass and Party Astronauts fought in a three-map series, where Badass would win the first map 13-9. PA replied with a 13-10 second map, but Badass won the decider 13-8.
Badass joined Nouns, Rocket, M80, Liquid, BOSS, Wildcard, and Complexity in the Americas RMR, as the North American teams plus FURIA are waiting for the South Americans who qualify through to the Regional Major Ranking event. The Americas RMR will start on March 1st and end on March 4th, after the five teams attending the PGL Major Copenhagen are decided.
