NRG eliminated in Closed Qualifier
It was a startling ending for NRG in the first Counter-Strike 2 Major cycle as the organization was eliminated in the final match of the 2024 PGL Copenhagen Major Americas RMR North American Closed Qualifier as they fell 0-2 to Rocket.
NRG was put into a tough position in this qualifier as their first match was against the individually skilled Badass, who went toe-to-toe during the entire opening best-of-one. NRG were able to finally put their opponent away 16-14, requiring overtime to force a matchup against Complexity in the 1-0 round.
The game against Complexity was a massive test for the two sides as they went into four overtimes before the Cowboys would eventually pull away with a 25-21 win. Things went from bad to worse for NRG as they would have to meet one of North America's better teams.
Nouns gave NRG a run for their money on Inferno as the DAO-backed organization was able to spring a 13-8 win to force NRG into the 1-2 elimination round. While NRG was able to comfortably take care of LOS in a quick 2-0 win, they found themselves struggling against Rocket.
Rocket proved to be one of the harder teams for NRG to play as Matthew "nero" Seymour was simply untouchable in the opening map of Anubis by putting up 32 kills and a 1.68 HLTV Rating en route to stealing away the organization's map pick and taking home a 16-14 overtime win. Rocket then headed to their map pick of Mirage, where they once again were forced into an overtime, but thanks to Damian "EMIYA" Boulware's (formerly known as Droid) leading performance, the squad was able to come away with a 16-13 win to secure the 2-0 victory and their spot at the Americas RMR.
