Jason Lake on Complexity's form: I've not seen a team take a sharp turn like this in 20 years
One of the biggest feel-good stories of the year so far, especially for long-suffering North American fans, has been the incredible run Complexity has been on since March 5th.
Complexity's founder, owner, and arguably their biggest supporter Jason Lake admitted even he has been surprised by how well the team is playing. But he's not shocked about the level the team is at, but more so about how early they've reached it, as he told Erik "fl0m" Flom during his PGL Bucharest 2025 co-stream.
I gotta tell you, just being honest, I don't think in 20 years I've ever seen a team make such a sharp turn in just a couple of months. I've seen teams greatly improve over time, but the team we've got right now versus the team we had in January; I'm pretty baffled.
After eating some tough losses against international competition to start their campaign and a new era without frontman Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski, Complexity returned home to collect some wins against NA teams before heading back on the road. Since the start of March, they've now won 25 of their last 29 maps played, and scored some major wins against some highly ranked teams.
The icing on the cake was the team's most recent victory over FaZe and EliGE, the former of whom Lake called a "perennial freaking nemesis of ours." Danny "Cxzi" Strzelczyk has looked like a star as of late, but Lake loves what both him and Nick "nicx" Lee have brought to the team.
"What I really like about nicx and Cxzi are a couple things. One is just the general attitude they bring: the positivity, the work ethic, the willingness to play sacrificially, and the hunger to learn the game at a deeper level. It's such a refreshing attitude to be around, and when they play, they play fearlessly."
Lake added that the team is still looking for someone to fill the head coaching role after Tiaan "T.c" Coertzen's departure, but said he's not "super eager on adding a new voice to the room" so close to the Major, especially with the team playing so well. Their General Manager Graham "messioso" Pitt is also coaching them for now and that seems to be working just fine.
Despite Complexity's incredible run of late, they still must go through the MRQs if they want to reach the BLAST.tv Austin Major. But first, they'll play against Aurora in the PGL Bucharest 2025 quarterfinals.
