Valve release long-awaited ranking update

There are certainly some interesting top teams right now...

Last December, Valve announced they had created a new ranking to help determine the top teams of each region. This ranking is based on three factors; prize money earned, beaten opponents' prize money earned and teams beaten, and head-to-head results. The full formula is available on the GitHub page.

The ranking, which is not expected to be used until the open qualifiers for the RMR and the upcoming Major which are several months away, appears slightly wonky as the current top-ranked team in the Americas is BESTIA and the best North American team is Nouns.

The developers have said they will look to refine the formula as it will be used for all upcoming Valve-sponsored events and is subject to change. The regional ranking divides teams up into only three regions; Europe, Americas, and Asia, the last of which will incorporate teams from South Africa as well. These rankings will be used to determine the invites to the corresponding closed qualifier for the Regional Major Ranking tournaments.

Below are the top ten teams in the current Americas Ranking:

#1. 9z - 907 Points
#2. Brazil MIBR - 853 Points Previous Lineup
#3. Brazil Sharks - 819 Points
#4 BESTIA - 798 Points
#5. Brazil Imperial - 781 Points
#6. United States Nouns - 774 Points
#7. Brazil paiN - 763 Points Previous Lineup
#8. Brazil 00NATION - 762 Points
#9. Brazil FURIA - 746 Points
#10. M80 - 744 Points
