Squirtle Squad announce fundraiser
Gaimin Gladiators were on a roll after eight straight top-3 finishes in events, one of which was the open qualifier for the IEM Road to Rio Americas RMR. A few days later after securing a spot in the RMR the roster would be dropped by the organization amidst a change in the focus from the executives, deciding to put all their eggs in the Dota 2 basket.
Now, the unattached roster turns to the North American Counter-Strike community in hopes of getting a monetary boost, as well as a mental boost. The team's coach, Kory "SEMPHIS" Friesen, used Twitter to reveal the crowdfunding campaign that was set up. SEMPHIS announced that the money will be used for tickets, food expenses, bootcamp costs, and other bills.
The team plans to stay in Germany for five days before the start of the Americas RMR in order to adapt to time zones, and, above all, to practice against European teams.
In order to show their appreciation, the roster decided to give the top three donors and three other randomly selected donors a prize from a list that includes demo reviews, pugs with a player from the team, lessons, access to strategies and setups from one map, and inside access to the team's TeamSpeak during bootcamp.
David "cynic" Polster is not part of the crowdfund due to his past experiences and will be paying his own expenses.
The community was quick to react to the Twitter post and donate. Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo replied to SEMPHIS saying he will "try to gather some resources to help" during his stream this week.
It's always nice to see the North American CS:GO community coming together to support each other's dreams, as well as pro-players helping each other in order to elevate the level of play. After only 15 hours, people have already donated $1,340 CAD.
