Gambit cruise past FaZe; OpTic take down Liquid
Gambit got off to a hot start on Mirage, winning the pistol round and moving up to 8 rounds with little contest — FaZe were only able to pick up one round of their own in between. Ladislav "GuardiaN" Kovacs began finding opening picks for FaZe to grab his squad two rounds, but relentless aggression from Gambit soon had the Europeans broken economically. From here it was smooth sailing for the CIS squad, thanks in part to an incredible first half from Abay "HObbit" Khasenov, who did an average of 147 damage per round. FaZe only managed one more round on their CT side, closing out the half 12-3 in Gambit's favor.
FaZe had no chance in the second half either, especially with Gambit securing the second pistol round of the match. Two deagle kills from Nikola "NiKo" Kovac almost gave FaZe a chance to pick up a round on their force-buy, but the round was closed out by Gambit in the end. This was the final nail in the coffin for FaZe as Gambit offered no openings in the last few rounds of the match, closing out Mirage 16-3 verus the current #2 team in the world.
OpTic took the first pistol round of Mirage, getting off to a good start for themselves; however, Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski had no intention of making it easy for the Europeans. Four deagle kills on the defense gave Liquid a round right back, and they quickly worked their way up to four rounds. OpTic began fighting back, and though the rounds were close, evened the score against the North Americans. Soon after OpTic pulled ahead, Liquid began fighting back in earnest. Nick "nitr0" Cannella and co. were able to pick up four of the last five rounds in the half to bring the score to 8-7 in OpTic's favor.
OpTic took the second pistol round of Mirage, though a bomb plant allowed Liquid to buy rifles on the third round. A B site attack gave Liquid their first T side round, but the next three went the way of OpTic with Adam "friberg" Friberg picking up an ace on the way. Liquid were able to grab one more round for themselves, but OpTic never lost control of the match on their CT side. Óscar "mixwell" Cañellas and Emil "Magisk" Reif had no issue demolishing Liquid's offense, and the Europeans closed out the match 16-10.
These wins put OpTic and Gambit into second and third place in Group B, respectively. The Green Wall will now take on Renegades to see if they can hold their position, while Liquid will face the Frenchmen from G2. Liquid will then go to take on FaZe, while Gambit will play Renegades later tonight.
