Cloud9 and Astralis claim victories in New York
Cloud9 vs Na'Vi
Picks and bans resulted in a bout on Inferno. Cloud9 started the first half off with a hyper-aggressive, yet composed, Terrorist-side offense. Their onsalught lasted seven rounds before a reply came from Na'Vi. Fundamentals helped the CIS team rack up some eco rounds but they could never string anything together to get their economy rolling. After a tactical pause from Na'Vi, Cloud9 seemed to have lost their momentum, but closed out the half with a dominant 11-4 scoreline.
The CIS team's superior ability with pistols helped them claim the first round of the second half, but they continued to struggle to win successive rounds. A heartbreaking round lost due to having no defusal kit on round 26 (and match point) prompted a tactical pause from the Americans. Cloud9 continued to stay on matchpoint for seven rounds in a row before they finally closed it out 16-13.
Astralis vs Liquid
The Danes and North Americans met on Mirage, a map that has slowly risen to be one of high contention as of late in the professional scene. Despite picking up the pistol round Liquid couldn't make anything of it as they were immediately anti-eco'd then lost four more. After tightening up their defense Liquid was able to stabilize the half with a reasonable 8-7 going into T-side.
After pulling things together in the first half, Liquid rolled that momentum into the second by setting themselves up with a 3 round lead over Astralis. That came to a halt when the Danes eco'd Liquid, shifting the tide that would last till the games conclusion. Astralis takes it over Liquid 16-13.
Cloud9 will now play SK to see who tops Group A, whereas Liquid will face Virtus.pro in the BO3 elimination match of Group B.
