SK over EnVyUs, FaZe gives Virtus.pro the plow
ESL One New York kicked off with some megalithic BO1 games to start the group stage.
SK vs EnVyUs
The two met on Cobblestone, a classically good map for SK. The first half started off rather grim for the Brazilians as they were almost immediately down 0-5 to the Frenchmen before they recomposed themselves and stabilized their economy to get back in the game. Mental fortitude was definitely on point this game as SK responded with 10 rounds consecutively to close out the half 10-5 in their favor.
With a monstrous quad-kill from FalleN, SK just barely edged out EnVyUs on the second half pistol round, only to be anti-eco'd the next. The French used this opportunity to take two more rounds before SK were able to respond with a bomb detonation and three more rounds of their own. The last burst of life from Happy's men saw the score come to 14-12 after four straight rounds in their favor, but SK was finally able to close out the last two rounds and end the map 16-12.
FaZe vs Virtus.pro
The newly minted FaZe clan squared up with Virtus.pro in the first Group B match of the day on Cache. VP started off proper by securing the first three rounds before the European super team tied it up. FaZe was the one, however, who was able to continually string rounds together, resulting in a dominant 10-5 half.
Showing little mercy, FaZe barrelled through VP until the match came to a close. Being unable to recompose themselves after the first half ultimately lead to the fall of the Poles, as they were unable to win a single round on their Terrorist side.
The next match ups of ESL One New York will feature the North American duo of Cloud9 and Liquid, who will be taking on Natus Vincere and Astralis, respectively.
