Envy hastr0: "We have to get back into CS"
Mike "hastr0" Rufail, the original founder of Envy who reacquired the brand back in January, revealed the organization is looking to re-enter Counter-Strike esports after more than four years away.
hastr0 stated on X this Tuesday, April 15th that the organization has "begun to explore all opportunities and will jump on the right one when we find it." He then shared an image of Envy's DreamHack Open Cluj-Napoca 2015 sticker and lone Major trophy, adding that the organization is in serious "rebuild mode."
It'll be hard to recreate Envy's original CS entry year from 2015. The organization, then known as EnVyUs, signed the French LDLC roster that had just won the DreamHack Winter 2014 Major, made an all-star trade with Titan for Kenny "kennyS" Schrub and Dan "apEX" Madesclaire, then won their first and only Major in Cluj-Napoca.
Envy competed at a high level with a primarily French roster until the summer of 2018, then pivoting to a primarily North American roster, which saw multiple iterations over the next couple of years.
At the start of 2021, Envy put its CS division "on hold," and merged with OpTic Gaming by the end of the year. The Envy brand was retired from June 2022 until just this past month, when hastr0 reacquired the brand and revived the organization, entering games like VALORANT and Marvel Rivals.
Given that Envy has NA teams in both VALORANT and Marvel Rivals, hastr0 will presumably seek NA players for the org's first team in CS2.
