FaZe survive M80 in EliGE's debut, advance to next round of BLAST Bounty Season 1
M80 pushed FaZe to their limit in the first round of the BLAST Bounty Season 1 closed qualifier, but the higher-ranked international roster managed to take the win in Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski's debut.
EliGE made an instant impact in his FaZe debut, picking up a 3K in the opening pistol round of Ancient. FaZe jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead on M80's map pick, but M80's rising star Mason "Lake" Sanderson put up some big rounds late in the first half to keep the score close. FaZe claimed the second half pistol as well though, and outclassed M80 in the second half with a slew of efficient B-site executes. M80 only started stringing CT rounds together once FaZe reached 12, but FaZe still managed to close out Ancient.
M80 came out firing on Inferno, recovering from some early Helvijs "broky" Saukants Deagle heroics to take a 7-5 lead after their CT half. FaZe looked shaky on their CT side, as Lake shined again with a handful of crucial highlights, pushing M80 to a 13-7 win on Inferno.
After a strong showing on Inferno, M80's stand-in Nils "k1to" Gruhne put on a monster performance on Dust 2, not letting FaZe build an early lead. But FaZe finally looked cohesive in the final rounds, with ELiGE, broky, and Finn "karrigan" Andersen shouldering the load on the T side. EliGE looked his best all series in the second half of Dust 2, laying claim to the mid area and dominating anyone who challenged him. Yet again, M80 would not go down quietly, but FaZe finally found a way to win on Dust 2 and take the series.
While M80's time at BLAST Bounty is over already, the team should be proud of taking FaZe to their limits while playing with a stand-in. And while FaZe's win was anything but decisive, they saw strong performances from EliGE and broky throughout the series.
