Fisher College upset FLUFFY AIMERS to top Hol1day Cash Cup
Last night the $1,500 Hol1day Cash Cup sponsored by Nouns, Nouns.fe, FlyQuest, Jadan "HexT" Postma of NRG, and VividDarkFPS came to a close after seeing 56 teams sign up for the weekend event. The event overall saw a strong turnout, with a mix of ESL Challenger League, ESEA Advanced, and ESL Impact teams joining the fray for the $750 top prize.
The first two days of competition played out largely as expected, with the largest upset of these early days seeing the recently-formed Shimmer lineup claim a 13-11 win over MIGHT on Ancient, the team's first notable win over a male team in some months. In round four of the upper bracket Final Form also managed a 13-11 win over FLUFFY AIMERS on Dust2 while Fisher College would ultimately come out on top of the upper bracket after wins over Shimmer, Final Form, and InControl.
In the lower bracket, FLUFFY AIMERS clawed their way to the final after going through a whirlwind tour of Bo1s, taking down Holly Molly, Aether, MCS, Final Form, and finally InControl in a Bo3 to set up a confrontation against Fisher College.
The finals between Fisher and FLUFFY AIMERS began with the collegiate team in the lead as they won Nuke, starting off with a 6-6 T-side before posting a perfect 7-0 CT-side to win their map pick 13-6. Moving onto Vertigo, after a 3-0 start from FLUFFY AIMERS on their T-side, Fisher College would win the opening half 7-5 before climbing up to an 11-5 lead in the second half. With their backs against the wall, FLUFFY AIMERS would avoid a two-map blowout with a massive rally that saw the team win the next eight rounds in a row to win Vertigo 13-11 and force the series onto Ancient.
With the series tied up, Ancient began with FLUFFY AIMERS leading on their T-side 5-1 before Fisher College answered back with six rounds of their own to narrowly win the half 7-5. This would then lead into a dominant second half from the European squad, ultimately culminating in Fisher winning Ancient 13-6 and taking the series 2-1.
