Liquid and Complexity slide in HLTV rankings update
Both Liquid and Complexity have slid down the HLTV global rankings following the October 14 update, with Liquid falling from eighth to tenth while Complexity dropped down from tenth to twelfth place. This is the first time both of NA's top ranked teams have slid two or more spots since March of this year, just weeks after Complexity knocked Liquid out of the BLAST.tv Copenhagen Major Americas RMR.
Both teams dropped as a result of early group stage exits at IEM Rio. Liquid beat Complexity in a best-of-one, but then let an early series lead against eventual tournament winner Natus Vincere slip away, before again losing decisively to FaZe.
After losing to Liquid in the first round of the group stage, Complexity staved off elimination with a win against Imperial, but lost to the MOUZ team they had previously defeated twice at ESL Pro League Season 20 last month.
Liquid now finds themselves on the very edge of the top ten, having remained in the 7th-9th range since the start of August. Complexity have fluctuated in and out of the top ten all year, reaching as high as seventh back in January but falling as far as fifteenth.
Liquid next plays at the BLAST Premier World Final starting October 30th, before both teams compete at the crucial Perfect World Major Americas RMR in November.
