IEM Katowice 2014 replica trophy up for sale in Poland
One of four trophies made for the Intel Extreme Masters 2014 StarCraft II tournament has allegedly gone up for sale on a Polish online marketplace. The image of the 2014 trophy features the names of previous StarCraft II, Counter-Strike, and League of Legends winners.
The original thread poster noted that they spoke with ESL about the trophy, who confirmed that it was one of four made for the event. Two of the trophies were replicas kept in the office, while one was provided to the winning team.
Kim "sOs" Yu-jin from Jin Air Green Wings won that year's IEM Katowice StarCraft II trophy and should have one of the originals. The replica trophy for IEM Katowice 2014 would have been held at the ESL offices, but is now listed on a Polish marketplace.
"It was supposed to be thrown into the trash bin with other memorabilia," said Piotr, the man selling the trophy. "I got a question from a friend who was cleaning asking if I wanted anything, because he knew I was interested in games. I accepted it and it has sat as a decoration for about nine years".
Many are already excited about the possibility of owning a replica trophy emblazoned with the names of previous IEM winners across Warcraft and Counter-Strike tournaments. Piotr says that someone has already offered him $7,000 Euro for the trophy, but he is currently waiting for ESL to authenticate it before he puts it up for auction.
Piotr himself said he used to be an esports fan but now plays less as he has gotten older. "Now I prefer normal sports like gym, MMA, and mountain trips."
