Extra Salt and Party Astronauts through to second day of ESEA Autumn 2021 Cash Cup 4
Though overshadowed by an instant classic of a semifinal at the PGL Stockholm Major, the fourth iteration of ESEA's Autumn Cash Cup series played out today with Extra Salt and Party Astronauts dispatching a number of ESEA Premier sides en route to a berth in the money rounds of the event on day two.
Despite the world-class viewing going on elsewhere, North America's best couldn't resist the allure of cash money and Fragadelphia series points and were out gunning to take their shot at the invited teams, ATK and Verum. The fact that there were invited teams for an event that doubles as a Frag Online was not without controversy however, as both ATK and Verum were guaranteed a minimum of 200 points towards Fragadelphia 16 qualification without so much as booting their PCs, while other ESEA Premier sides had to win two matches to earn a fourth of those same points.
Strife were defeated by ChocoCheck, who subsquently lost to Extra Salt. ONET4P fell to mixteam From the Grave, which wasn't even the biggest shock result of the day, that honor belongs to RBG, who managed to upset Bad News Bears shortly after they had dispatched Big Chillin. MIBR won their Brazilian derby against oNE while Triumph and Eros lost to Detonate and Party Astronauts, respectively, before Party Astronauts eliminated Detonate as well.
The entire event bracket can be found here.
RBG came into their match with Extra Salt carrying the momentum of the win over Bad News Bears, but playing with Tommy "Axed" Ryan in place of a sleeping Jordon "jitter" Ruggiero caught up with Jadan "HexT" Postma and friends, as Josh "oSee" Ohm terrorized RBG with the AWP, finishing with 12 of his 25 kills on the scoped weapon to secure a matchup with Verum tomorrow.
The other qualification match pitted the reigning ESEA Premier champions against an early Season 39 Advanced favorite from Brazil, as the iconic MIBR brand has returned stateside to compete and rise through the ranks of the North American scene to try to reach ESL Pro League. Party Astronauts played spoiler to that return today however, they used a 10-3 CT-side on Inferno to suffocate the South Americans and advance to face ATK. Josh "PwnAlone" Pigue led all players with 29 kills, while Ricardo "boltz" Prass led MIBR with 22 frags in the loss.
The second day of matches will start with:
Extra Salt | vs. Verum |
Party Astronauts | vs. ATK |
Both matches are slated to begin at 3PM EST tomorrow.
