$20k BoomTV Code Freedom set to begin

A $20k online tournament hosted by BoomTV is set to start today in short order, with eight teams being invited to compete in the one-day event. The single-elimination bracket features quite an interesting assortment of teams as it is set to feature a mix of top ESL Challenger League teams, ESL Impact teams, and two mixteams made just for the event.

The format for this event sees the eight teams slotted into two round-robin Bo1 group stages, with the top two teams from each group heading into a single-elimination Bo3 bracket.

Starting with the ECL teams, which make up the majority of the teams in attendance, Nouns, Party Astronauts, Elevate, and FLUFFY AIMERS are likely to be the top contenders in the event, while Nouns is the top-ranked team in attendance. NRG was originally set to attend the event but were unavailable, likely due to their ECL commitments tonight, and were replaced by Party Astronauts.

The two Impact teams in the event are NA's top squads in the form of FlyQuest RED and Shimmer. While both teams have struggled to find results against ECL-caliber teams, it will be interesting to see if they are able to do some damage in the event.

Finally, there are two mixteams with quite unusual compositions. The first squad, the krubby krabs, is led by Carolyn "artStar" Noquez from Karma and features Olga "olya" Kryvulych and David "Xp3" Garrido from that team alongside Justin "Sandman" Saulle and Johnny "JDubs" Wu. The other mixteam, Rent Money, is something of a Bad News Bears throwback as it consists of Gabe "Spongey" Greiner, Peter "ptr" Gurney, Khizar "Momo" Rehman, Saad "Pluto" Siraj, and Nick "alter" Jackson, with alter set to play his first event in more than a year.

Like the recently announced USEA league, this event also features a highly unusual way of selecting maps, with each match having predetermined maps with no veto.

• Semi Finals: Inferno, Anubis, Nuke

• Finals: Dust2, Vertigo, Mirage

The prizepool for this event is as follows:

*To tiebreak third and fourth place an additional match will be played off-stream.
