Game Con Canada and ACADME Esports confirm details for $5k CAD hybrid event
After ACADME Esports released a survey to gauge interest in hosting a Counter-Strike 2 event in Western Canada, the tournament organizer has released details including the tournament's format, scaling prizepool, scaling format, and the location of the potential LAN portion at Game Con Canada 2024 in Edmonton, Alberta.
One important detail to note at the onset is that the event has an entry fee, with teams needing to buy five single-day passes to Game Con Canada to compete in the event. With one-day passes to Game Con Canada costing $52.48 CAD (~$38 USD), it will cost teams around $262.4 CAD (~$192) to compete in the event even if they do not make the LAN portion. Additionally, with players needing to buy an adult day pass, all players must be 18+, which may potentially rule out squads with younger players.
The event is set to run with a maximum of 64 teams, with a 55-team threshold for a LAN finals. Should the event not have 55 or more teams, it would be an exclusively online event. Additionally, the number of signups will affect the prizepool on offer, which will range between $2,500 CAD (~$1,828 USD) and $5,000 CAD (~$3,657 USD).
Looking at the format, the event will be run on FACEIT, with it being a BO3 double-elimination bracket. The event's online portion will run from May 17th to June 1st over the course of three weekends, with the potential LAN finals taking place on June 15th. In the event of a LAN finals, FACEIT servers will still be used, with Los Angeles or Denver being the best server locations for Edmonton.
Teams interested in registering for the event may do so here or by reaching out to Arian "brodania" H. on X, with registration closing on May 15th.
