IESF to host Panamerican Esports Games 2024 in Rio
At an event in Rio de Janeiro, the International Esports Federation announced the creation of the Panamerican Esports Games. This competition will serve as the Americas qualifier for the World Championship to be held later that same year in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
This qualifier is a remarkable improvement from the 2023 Americas CS:GO qualifiers, which ran separate men's qualifiers for the northern, central, and southern Americas regions but did not hold a qualifier for the women's tournament.
The Panamerican competition will feature multiple titles, such as Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, Rocket League, and Mobile Legends. While several Americas nations have been invited, there are a few notable exclusions. Paraguay and Cuba did not make the cut, while smaller nations like Guadalupe and Suriname will be present.
The event will happen in Rio de Janeiro, from June 1st until June 9th, at a location to be revealed later. Likewise, there's no information about the formats of the tournaments and when the national qualifiers will happen, if they will happen at all.
If the rules don't change, the Panamerican Esports Games 2024 will see four American men's teams going to Saudi Arabia, while only three women's teams will go to the Middle Eastern country.
Just over a month ago, the IESF underwent a massive change, as Saudi Arabian Prince Faisal bin Bandar Al Saud replaced Vlad Marinescu as the president of the organization. Recently, Prince Faisal bin Bandar Al Saud appointed Prince Omar bin Faisal as the new Chair of the Gaming for Good Commission, adding even more connections to the Saudi Arabian crown.
