Liquid squeeze past Party Astronauts in scrappy series
Liquid have continued their scrappy, messy run through the BLAST Premier Fall American showdown with a 2-1 win over their second orgless team of the event— Party Astronauts. After looking quite shaky against Forsaken on October 5th, Liquid have done little to allay those feelings despite making their way into the finals of the BLAST Fall Finals.
Map one, Inferno, began with Liquid in a very comfortable lead as they won the first seven rounds in a row on their T-side before Party Astronauts found their way onto the board. This would ultimately latter for little, however, as Liquid immediately broke any chance of a first-half comeback as they won the next round before winning their T-side 13-2. Moving into the second half, Party Astronauts finally woke up with five rounds in a row before Liquid finally got their economy going and went into a dominant run of rounds to win Inferno 16-8.
Moving into map two, Overpass, Liquid started their T-side up 2-5 but saw their three round lead slowly slip away as Party Astronauts found rounds here and there to claw away their lead. Despite this, Liquid would ultimately win the half 8-7 before the map swapped sides. Moving into the second half, the momentum of the series completely changed as Party Astronauts propelled by William "spek" Smith put up an absolutely dominant T-side to take Overpass 16-11 to force the series onto a third map.
With Liquid staring down another third map against an orgless team, they started on their T-side by winning the first three rounds in a row before ultimately going on to win the half 10-5. The second half would ultimately show that Liquid were the better team in the series as they only gave up two rounds before taking Mirage 16-7, however need to play a full series against PA with a stand-in bodes poorly for their performance in the finals tomorrow.
Liquid will now face the winner of Complexity versus FURIA tomorrow at 02:00PM.
