FURIA reach Pinnacle Cup V grand final
After a lackluster start to the semester with a new-looking roster, FURIA have been staying in Europe and playing in several qualifiers and tournaments. With a successful start to their Pinnacle Cup V campaign against Espionage, FURIA had to deal with Monte if they wanted to reach the grand finals.
The history between the teams tells a sad story for the Brazilians, with losses during the Paris Major and the IEM Cologne 2023 Play-In. This was the time for FURIA to get one series from the Ukrainians.
The series started off in Mirage, picked by Monte. Throughout the first half, it was the Brazilians in control of the map, winning the CT-side pistol and the three following rounds. Monte replied with just one and FURIA stringed three more rounds before losing their second. FURIA secured the eighth, winning the half, but Monte climbed back and the half ended with the Brazilians ahead 9-6. The second half had Monte winning the pistol round plus two more. Then, FURIA won three straight, Monte fought back and ended up trading rounds before the Brazilians closed the map out 16-11.
FURIA's pick of Vertigo had a shaky start, even with the Brazilians starting on the CT-side. With the pistol round going to Monte and the teams trading rounds, the CT economy was hard to manage as the Terrorists reached a 7-3 lead. After that, FURIA got five rounds in a row to close the half 8-7 ahead. Monte got the second pistol of the map, and after that, they couldn't be stopped, posting seven straight rounds in the second half, with FURIA only winning two. The map ended 16-10.
The decider would be Nuke. FURIA opened up with a 4-0 CT-side lead, which got cut down to 4-3, and after both teams traded rounds, the Brazilians ran away with the half, winning it 10-5. Despite winning the T-side pistol, FURIA let Monte get to an 11-9 deficit before getting to a 13-9 that turned into a 13-10. Monte won the next two, putting FURIA on an eco, which was the key for them to unlock the A-site, netting them 14-12. Two great calls from Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo clinched the win and the spot in the grand finals of the tournament.
With this win, FURIA will face the winner of Astralis vs. 00 Nation in the grand finals of Pinnacle Cup V, which happens tomorrow at 01:00PM
