Complexity falter in opening match
After a poor performance at BLAST Premier Fall Groups, the Americans from Complexity were only able to get a single BO3 victory against NIP. Their later losses against Vitality, NIP, and Astralis would not build confidence for the new-look squad as they headed into IEM Cologne 2023. With Jonathan "EliGE" Jablonowski now headlining their team, they looked to play against the revamped fnatic in the opening BO1 on Inferno.
The first half of the match was tangled in a back-and-forth with miraculous plays and last-second clutches. Certainly the highlight of the half was Håkon "hallzerk" Fjærli stealing a round away thanks to a last-second nade killing the fnatic bomb planter and then barely staying alive while time expired. Despite Complexity's best efforts, they would lose the first half 9-6 and looked lost against fnatic's aggression.
Complexity would win the second half pistol round, leading the way in tying up the game at 9-9 with an eye to running away with the game. The Americans appeared well on their way to doing so against fnatic, but an unexpected William "mezii" Merriman pistol triple kill in spawn, as they attempted to head to B, stopped that run in it's tracks, which ended up forcing Complexity onto the back foot. Some late round heroics came into play fo the Americans as Complexity inched closer and got to the 30th round, converting it, and sending the series to overtime.Complexity and fnatic would fight back and forth valiantly, with fnatic taking the Overtime 19-17.
Complexity will now head to the lower bracket where they will be facing off against the loser of OG v. 9ine tomorrow at 10:00AM.
