FaZe take down new look OG

The Europeans succeeded despite the annoucnement of their coach's recent departure.

As one of the few teams that made no changes in the recent offseason, you would expect that FaZe would be one of the few known quantities heading into BLAST Fall Groups. Despite seeming rather stable, Robert "RobbaN" Dahlström announced his shock departure from the team yesterday leaving some to question how FaZe's preparation for today would look. In terms of preparation, the former Major champions probably couldn't have mustered much as OG came into today with their brand new core following a complete restructuring.

Kicking off on Inferno, FaZe started strong on their opponent map pick, taking an early 3-0 lead off the back of a successful pistol round retake. Despite the strong start on their defensive side, the slight grip that FaZe held on the half suddenly slipped, with OG mounting an impressive offensive, taking a 9-6 lead into the halftime break.

Regaining a foothold in the game at the start of the second half, FaZe went two for two on pistol rounds but unlike in the first half they continued to build momentum after winning against the follow up force buys. Taking the lead after OG posted a single round in response at 11-10, it looked as if we were heading to overtime when the teams tied up at 14-14. Despite Iulian "regali" Harjău's best efforts on the AWP for his new team, it was not to be in map one as FaZe closed out 16-14 and sent the affair to their map pick of Mirage.

Finn "karrigan" Andersen and co. looked far more convincing at the beginning of Mirage, claiming six of the opening seven rounds on their T-side, giving them an early 6-1 lead. OG were not to be deterred however, forming a mini streak of their own with four consecutive rounds before things were all square once again at 7-7. It was FaZe who would ultimately claim the edge however, taking the final round to post a narrow 8-7 lead heading into their defence.

OG's offensive started on the right foot with a pistol round win equalizing the score, but from then on out it was FaZe's game through and through. Taking eight of the final nine rounds, Nemanja "nexa" Isaković's men could not break through as the North American on the server, Russel "Twistzz" Van Dulken put on an absolute clinic.
