sjuush on inconsistency: "Sometimes we want to play too perfect"
On the first day of BLAST Spring Final in Washington D.C., Heroic clobbered the hometown heroes of Complexity to guarantee a spot in the playoffs. While it was of course disappointing for North Americans, it was to be expected as Heroic remain one of the most consistent teams in the world, constantly appearing in playoffs time and time again.
After the game, Dust2.us' Samuel "Draik04" Popkes spoke with Rasmus "sjuush" Beck to get insight on the team's counterintuitive consistency, but inability to close out tournaments, the rest of BLAST Spring Final, and more.
Congrats on the win, how important is it to be able to move past Complexity without too much difficulty?
I think it's about confidence. It gives us a confidence boost to go strong into the tournament with a good start, both individually, as a team, and mental-wise.
I don't think anyone would call your season unsuccessful, but perhaps your team has fallen short in places like the Major, Dallas, and Rio. Has missing the mark on those trophies consistently taken a toll at all?
I wouldn't say that. It's obviously tough, and the way we lose is tough, but we keep improving. We are finding solutions to everything and it's just about time. The time will come and the trophies will come as well. I believe in it. 100%. I mean, we're obviously gonna lose if we make it to the semifinal laughs. In the beginning of the tournaments we start out good, and I believe we can win, but most likely we come to the semifinal where we'll choke again laughs.
I was curious about MOUZ. You played them in Dallas. You 2-0'd them in groups, but in playoffs fell short 1-2. Is it crowd fright, or do you think the teams have their eyes on you since you're at the top?
I think sometimes we want to play too perfect, so we can sometimes fall short to where we don't want to take the chances we usually do.
huNter- said earlier that when you are making these deep runs, you almost want to keep playing more events to keep up the momentum. Do you think the player break might hinder you guys, or are you looking forward to it?
I think we're definitely looking forward to it. I don't think it will hinder anything. It might be good for us as well. we've made great runs so far so it might be that little break that gives us that last edge.
A lot of other top teams have struggled to find the consistency that you guys have. I'm sure you saw Vitality just lost to Imperial, FaZe out early at Rio, G2 out early at the Major. What do you think gives you guys the edge to stay consistent?
I think it's mostly the start of the tournaments and how we prepare, and what mindset we go into the game with. It doesn't matter who you play, you can lose to anyone if you don't go in with the right mindset. If you tilt, it affects the others, and if you start out the tournament with that, it's not a good start.
You're gonna play the winner of FaZe vs Astralis. How do you feel about either of those?
I think Astralis could be fun. We've played FaZe a few times, but they're also a fun opponent because they're a really good team, and I don't really know what level Astralis is right now. They're a Danish team, we want to beat Danish teams, we want to stay at the top. I don't really care who we play to be honest, I think both teams are interesting.
Heroic are now slated to play FaZe, a rematch of the BLAST.tv Paris Major quarterfinals. The two teams are scheduled to face off tomorrow at 07:00PM.
