Fnatic advance past OpTic to semifinals
The first round of six matchup at the ESL Pro League S6 Finals began on Inferno between Fnatic and OpTic. Even though Freddy "KRIMZ" Johansson picked up three kills in the opening round, the OpTic side came out on top. Emil "Magisk" Reif made sure that OpTic weren't reset, as three kills allowed his team to convert the pistol round. They couldn't keep hold of the lead for long, as Jonas "Lekr0" Olofsson and Jesper "JW" Wecksell led the Swedish team to take the lead on the CT side.
KRIMZ once again chimed in, to make the score 5-2, but OpTic responded and Magisk put up many multi-kill rounds. The teams kept it close, with KRIMZ, JW, and Lekr0 each making big plays, with Fnatic ending the first half 9-6.
JW was determined to capitalize on their lead, and he picked up a quadruple kill on the pistol round, which KRIMZ helped to convert into two additional rounds. OpTic took the first gun round, and despite the heroics of JW, Fnatic eventually lost the lead to the international squad. Adam "friberg" Friberg made his name known at the end of the map, as the final two rounds contained two huge triples which allowed OpTic to take Inferno 16-14.
OpTic's map pick of Train didn't go well for friberg's men, as KRIMZ secured another pistol round for Fnatic. Maikil "Golden" Selim and Robin "flusha" Rönnquist finally seemed to wake up from map one, as they each contributed to Fnatic securing the 3-0 lead. Fnatic seemed to be unstoppable on their Counter-Terrorist side, as flusha and Lekr0 rained frags upon the OpTic side. It took a clutch by Óscar "mixwell" Cañellas to finally secure his team a round, but flusha once again shut down the hope of OpTic.
Much like the previous map, KRIMZ put up consistent frags on Train, which helped Fnatic secure 11 rounds, but a critical triple kill by Kevin "HS" Tarn held Fnatic at that amount, with the half ending 11-4.
Fnatic took the second pistol round of the map, and the two following rounds, but OpTic began their comeback with the first gun round. Magisk was a large proponent in OpTic's comeback campaign, but flusha stopped Chet "ImAPet" Singh's team to secure map point. JW finally put down OpTic and secured Fnatic map two 16-10.
The Swedes of Fnatic continued their streak of pistol rounds, but lost the gun round due to time. OpTic couldn't garner too many in a row, as JW helped to take a fourth from the mid window. Both sides kept the score close, as HS and Magisk put up a solid A defense and mixwell won a retake on B. HS closed out the first half of Mirage for OpTic ending with a 9-6 score.
The final pistol round of the series went to Fnatic, and the Golden-led side quickly tied up the score 9-9. KRIMZ once again stepped up for his team and secured them the gun round, which led to Fnatic securing seven in a row, featuring many big kills by flusha. HS, as he did many times this game before, was the one to stop the Fnatic streak and OpTic converted the round to prevent the reset. mixwell powered OpTic to 12 rounds, but the international lineup was unable to tie up the score.
Fnatic managed to make 15 rounds, bought OpTic brought it back to the final round of regulation. The Swedish team pulled together a scrappy buy, and won the final round to take Mirage 16-14 and the series 2-1.
Fnatic has now advanced to the semifinals and will face FaZe Clan tomorrow. The next round of six match, which will feature North American underdogs Misfits vs HellRaisers, will grant the final spot in the semis against SK.
