oSee: "Today was not a Chokequid day"
After a gruelling BO3 versus Fluxo to finish off the day at the BLAST.tv Paris Major, Ryan Friend of Dust2.us caught up with Josh "oSee" Ohm from Liquid. Narrowly avoiding a 0-3 exit at the final CS:GO Major definitely was important for the team today as they face Complexity tomorrow.
Highlighting some of the questions from the interview, firstly, oSee explains that Liquid had to focus on improving their communication after their 0-2 start. Especially during clutches oSee points out that things have not been clicking, so they're working on making sure they do a better job, especially in late rounds.
I think a lot of our clutch situations have been pretty abysmal lately. We're doing really well in clutch situations in practice, and now coming to the matches it seems like nothing's really clicking. So, we're just talking about how we need to make sure we're constantly updating comms and making a plan with each other. Those late round situations are always going to happen. We can make sure we're always working together in those rounds, and I think we did a better job in that.
oSee has also recently stepped up his mental game during match, being more vocal than usual. With more cheering and shouting especially today, we wanted to know what was the catalyst behind that change.
I felt like we needed some energy in the team and nobody else is really a yeller. YEKINDAR can be a yeller sometimes, but he doesn’t do it often, so I took that responsibility for today to try and hype the boys up whenever they have a good round. Even if we lose around, you know, tell them “it's OK, let's move on to the next one”. It's not very like me, I feel like I don't scream usually, and I'm a very quiet person, but anything to get the win. So, I think it helps a little bit, I hope, and we'll see if maybe I'll keep doing it.
In both maps which Liquid won today versus Fluxo, they were first to reach 15, both times with a considerable lead over the Brazilian side. However, both times their opponent managed to squeeze out a comeback, reaching 14 rounds on Inferno.
oSee explained to us that everyone was still in the game even when Fluxo were coming back and that it's ip to individuals on the team to know they shouldn't be worried about choking or losing after being in the lead.
I think everyone was still in the game even when we were starting to lose the towards the ends. That's just on individuals to know that we're up, we shouldn't be worried about choking or thinking about anything like that, just playing a round just like any other round. I think we showed that today was not a Chokequid day.
Facing Complexity tomorrow will be a tough challenge for Liquid, both teams know each other well, so Liquid will be focusing more on themselves rather than their opponent's game.
I think it's going to be a brawl for sure. We both know how we play, and we've scrimed each other a good amount. Of course, I've played with a good amount of [their players] too, so I know their play style. But I don't think we're going to change anything too much, we know that if we play at our best, making sure that we're doing things correctly, we can beat any team. So, not focusing too much on them, but more focusing on ourselves and making sure we show up tomorrow.
After overcoming Fluxo today and avoiding a 0-3 elimination from the Major, the team have received a confidence boost going into tomorrow which will be crucial for their form.
Yeah, I definitely feel that we have a bit of a confidence boost because our confidence was definitely in the dumps after the first day. The win was really crucial for us to keep our form, and of course we also would have been 0-3 and gone out. So, that also would have been bad. I think the win definitely helps and hopefully we get our confidence back and show up.
We had to ask whether going 0-3 at the last ever CS:GO Major was ever a consideration for the team, with oSee saying it had not crossed his mind until after the first day. However, now that they're past that possibility, things should improve with that no longer lingering over their heads.
Honestly, it never crossed my mind until after the first day, but honestly, I came into the game today saying that we're not going to lose. No matter what, we're not losing. I'm making sure of it. And even though I felt like I didn't play the best today, I still felt like as a team we were doing really well in certain situations. And so, I'm really happy and we'll see tomorrow.
Liquid will be facing Complexity tomorrow in an elimination BO3 at 09:30AM.
